Jeffrey Paul Adams, loving husband, father and brother, passed away on March 7, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. The eldest of 12 children, Jeff was born on October 1, 1944, in Boca Raton, Florida, to Dr. Crawford W. Adams and Barbara Simpkins Adams. He grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, where he graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy in 1962. Jeff attended and graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity before moving to Mobile, Alabama. It was there that he met and married his loving wife Carolyn Green in 1982.
Jeff started working as an Underwriter for Guardian Life Insurance Company and became President and Founder of his own firm, Adams & Associates, in 1986 with 15 employees, practicing in South Alabama and Northwest Florida. He specialized in business and personal financial planning and was Alabama Underwriter of the Year. He attended the Wharton School of Business, Executive program, in Investments and Financial Planning and served as President of many professional organizations, including CLU Society (Mobile Chapter), General Agents and Managers Association of Mobile, Estate Planning Council of Mobile, Mobile Association of Life Underwriters, Alabama Association of Life Underwriters, Sales and Marketing Executives, International Association of Financial Planners (Mobile), Vice Chairman of Law & Legislation of NALU.
Jeff contributed greatly to the Mobile community in all aspects as demonstrated in his dedication to many worthwhile projects. He served on the Senior Bowl Committee, was Co-Founder and President of the Mobile Soccer Club, President of the Mobile Touchdown Club, the Mobile Rotary Sunrise Club, the Lions Club of Mobile; he was Chairman of the Better Business Bureau and the Alabama Arthritis Foundation. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors of the Salvation Army, Bay Bank, America’s Junior Miss and Main Street Mobile.
Jeff was an avid outdoorsman and loved to take his family fishing, enjoying their boat and time together on Dauphin Island. Jeff is survived by his wife Carolyn, daughters Caroline (Tom) Walsh and Ashley, son Jeffrey, and three grandchildren Catherine Listuon, Lee, and Thomas Walsh; and his eleven younger siblings: Patty (Steve) Huff, Cindy (Tom) Somerville, Steve Adams, Barbara (Griff) Langston, Bill (Isabel) Adams, Doris (Steve) Smith, Diane (Mike) Allison, Nancy Adams, Joan (Carl) Hampf, John Adams, and Anne (Darryl) Edmonds.
The family will welcome friends at a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the praying of the rosary at 4:45 p.m. on Friday, March 8, at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, in Mobile, Alabama. Mass will be offered at 2:00 p.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 407 Tuthill Lane, in Mobile on Saturday, March 9, with burial at Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, following the service.
