Jeannie was a 1967 graduate of Murphy High School and a 1971 graduate of the University of South Alabama. She was a charter member of the Beta Theta Chapter of Chi Omega Fraternity and remained an active alumna. She was a thirty-year educator in various Mobile public and private schools, followed by a second career in the retail industry. Jeannie also helped her late husband with their family business, Joe Hill Welding.
After being raised in Dauphin Way United Methodist Church, Jeannie transferred her membership to Forest Hill United Methodist Church, where she remained a member for 40 years. In addition, she was a member of the PEO Sisterhood, a philanthropic educational organization.
She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-three years, Albert H. Hill, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Eugene Russell. Jeannie is survived by her daughter, Melissa Hill Haughery (Mark); son, Russell J. Hill (Amy); five grandchildren, Annmarie, Chapman, and John Haughery and Luke and Jude Hill; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Guthrie; brother, Robert McCune; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 p.m. until the service hour.
