Hamp met the love of his life and beloved wife, Ruth Posey, in Mobile, Alabama while visiting relatives in March 1958. They married on August 30, 1958, and they were married almost 64 years before her passing in May 2022.
Hamp was known for his strong faith in God, unwavering determination, and love and support for his family and community. Along with his wife, he was a devout member of Wilmer Methodist Church in Wilmer, Alabama. Hamp entered the United States Air Force in February 1953 during the Korean War. He served as a technical instructor at the Keesler Air Force Base, teaching a fundamentals course. In October 1959, he returned to Keesler Air Force Base to teach in the Electronics Principles Department. He was discharged from the Air Force in May 1962 and subsequently applied for a position as a civilian employee at Keesley, continuing to teach electronics until his retirement in September 1994.
Hamp's life was filled with laughter, love, and togetherness, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. Hamp was an active attendee at the Wilmer Methodist Church, where he found peace and spiritual fulfillment. His life story leaves behind a legacy of love, fortitude, and family unity. We take comfort in knowing that Hamp is now reunited with his beloved Ruth and his parents in eternal peace.
