Her favorite number was 15, and on Thursday, December 15, 2022, Vickie Elaine Matson left this earth peacefully and surrounded by her family to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents William David and Marie Upshaw, her first husband of 26 years, Larry Dale Boggan, older brother Glenn Upshaw, and special Aunt n Sister, LuVerne Shepherd. Elaine leaves behind her devoted and loving husband of over 25 years, Randall “Randy” Matson. The bond of love shared by E-laine and Randy was etched in their hearts forever and ever. They adored each other and lived their lives together as one. Spending very few nights apart, the two shared countless date-nights and dinners with friends and family members. As Randy would often say, there is only one E-laine. She is survived by her cherished son, Roger Dale Boggan, and daughter-in-law Denise Nicholas Boggan whom she loved dearly and shared years of fun, laughter and good times, two sisters, Vonnie Harper, and Regenia Blanchette and husband Will Blanchette, and her two beloved fur babies, Roscoe and Rufus. Also, left to mourn her passing are grandsons Garrett Langan and wife Meagan Langan and great granddaughter Aubreigh Langan, Nolan Wright, Ryan Wright and grand daughter Shelby Boggan, along with numerous friends and family members.
Elaine was born in Chickasaw, Alabama on August 15, 1951. She married at the young age of 16 and welcomed her only child, Roger Dale, the following year. She shared an extremely close bond with her son, being just a teenager herself. Elaine had an exhilarating personality…she loved a good time and loved people. She lit up any room with her laughter and larger than life smile and she generously gave kisses and hugs. She was an avid reader, having read the Bible several times, and no Stephen King novel could be too long. Elaine was athletic and competitive by nature, and never shied away from a good dare. She loved to bowl, having bowled competitively for many years at Florida Bowling Lanes. She taught high-impact aerobics for over a decade and loved to run. Her “happy place” was being outdoors, and had a green thumb for growing flowers and spent hours taking care of her rose bushes. She loved to travel and would pack a bag in an instant to travel anywhere on the back of the Harley or longer trips in the 5th wheel.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Southern Cancer Center in Foley, Alabama and the nurses and staff of Community Hospice who cared for Elaine with love and dignity in her final two weeks here on earth. A special thanks is extended to Dr. Rodney Roconni at Mobile Infirmary Oncology Department for as Elaine so sincerely stated, “giving her 3 more years of life.”
