Dezell Simon Britt, resident of Mobile, Alabama, born June 17, 1930 in Jackson, Mississippi, passed away January 21, 2021. Dezell’s sense of humor, devotion to those he loved, and never ending tinkering with anything and everything will be greatly missed by all of those who knew him. Dezell was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Tommie; son, Robert (Stacia); grandchildren, Kelli, Courtney, and Sarah; and brothers, Tommy Jean, Irvin, and Edward.
Dezell served in the Army during the Korean War as a helicopter mechanic. Afterwards, he started Britt Appliance, where he was a skilled appliance repairman for 30 years. Dezell was a disciplined follower of Jesus Christ and a devoted member of his church. He served has a deacon and choir member at Springhill Avenue Baptist Church. Dezell was also a member of Sonshine Builders, where he assisted with the building of homes for Home of Grace and a deacon at Springhill Baptist Church. He was also an avid traveler. Dezell rarely turned down an opportunity to travel abroad or stateside. He enjoyed spending his free time and much of his retired life with his wife traveling as a founding member of the Mobile Roadrunner’s Traveling Club.
Dezell is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Lucille; brothers, Paul, Aubrey, Orville; and sister, Dorothy.
A visitation will be held from 12:00pm - 1:00pm on Wednesday, January 27th, 2021 at Pinecrest Funeral Home with a memorial to follow at 1:00pm in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
