A Vietnam veteran, he proudly served his country from 1966 to 1971 as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He was an avid fisherman who spent endless hours on the water with many friends and family. In 2006 he gave his life to Jesus, which gave him great comfort in his remaining years.
A dedicated husband, daddy and son, he is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 47 years, Betty "Boops"; his three daughters, Karen (Randy) Fuller, Melba (Tim) Presnall, Ashley (Mark) Brech; along with six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Darrell is also survived by his parents, Clarence and Viola Howell; one sister, Mae Jewel Hammac and other family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Radney Funeral Home, Dauphin Street. Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Forest Hill Church of God. Mr. Howell will be taken to the church one hour prior to services. Interment will be in Allentown Cemetery, Semmes, AL.
