Mr. Carroll Lee Floyd age 81 of Mobile, passed away on November 3, 2022. He worked as chief operator for Kerr McGee Chemical plant until his retirement in June of 2002. Earlier in his career, he ran Bud’s 76 on Dawes Rd, one of the last full-service gas stations. He served the Dawes Community until the station was hit hard during Hurricane Frederic, in September of 1979. Mr. Floyd enjoyed being of service to others and getting to know people. He also served as the Assistant Manager at SunRay Foods, on Schillinger Road, prior to beginning his career at Kerr McGee. He was born in Cherokee County, Alabama, the sixth child of eleven children. He attended Cherokee County High School, until going to work at Goodyear Tire and Rubber to assist his mother financially with his younger siblings. During his high school years, he played as point guard for the basketball team. As a child, his family worked as sharecroppers. They picked cotton for wages and grew their own vegetables, canning them to get by. Mr. Floyd was always happy to share stories of his younger years. He was proud of everything he learned, most importantly, the love of a strong family.
In 1975, he married his wife of 47 years. He lived a full life, building a legacy of sharing wisdom, enjoying every moment, and sharing unconditional love of family and friends. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and making memories with his family. He was a man of determination, strength, and love.
Mr. Floyd was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Baldwin Floyd; his father, Vinamon Floyd; his brothers Daniel, Edward, John, Miron, and Billy Floyd; his sisters Catherine Chambers, Helen Williams, and Linda Gayle Floyd; and his daughter Shelia Floyd Steward Layson. He is survived by his loving wife Regina McMillan Floyd; his daughter Danna Giddens; his sons Greg, Aubrey, and Jonathan Floyd; his granddaughters Shanna Steward Clanton, Savantha, Ryleigh, Madison and Rosalie Floyd, his grandsons Braxton Floyd and Shawn Giddens, his great grandsons Denver Clanton and Hunter Giddens; and his great granddaughters Stella Clanton and Khloe Giddens.
A visitation for Carroll will be held Monday, November 7, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at The Port Church, 6390 Old Shell Road, Mobile, AL 36608, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM . Interment will follow in New Hope Gardens, Mobile, AL.
