Archie Lee McPherson

Master Sergeant Archie Lee McPherson, ret., was born in Goodway, Alabama on June 6, 1945, the 3rd of three children born to Pastor Isaiah and Annie Mae McPherson. Archie confessed faith in Jesus Christ at an early age. After leaving Monroe County and Wilcox County, his father and mother left for Mobile, Alabama. His father accepted pastoralship at Mt. Hebron Baptist where Archie became an active member. Raised in Mobile, Archie attended Booker T. Washington Elementary and Jr. High School. He also attended Central High School where he played varsity basketball as a Power Forward. He graduated Central High School, Class of 1964. Before graduating from Central High, he took the United States Air Force exam and scored the highest mark one could get. He enlisted in the Air Force in July of 1964. During his years in the Air Force, Archie received his B.A. degree, which took a while. His continuing education was interrupted due to his deployment in Vietnam as the war heightened. Also during his years in service, his athletic ability served him well again. He was a star member of the United States Air Force Basketball team, again as a Power Forward, #25. Master Sergeant McPherson traveled the world and was stationed in various countries throughout the world. After retiring from the Air Force and his mother's insistence, Archie moved back to Mobile. He became a club owner in 1990. Music was a great love of his. Phase I was the name of his club. That is where he reunited with his longtime schoolmate, Jacqueline. Being a club owner was of his liking, but not of his calling. God's voice was stronger than the club's music. After retiring from the cement company, God said it's time. He was called to the Ministry. He was at peace. Being passionate about serving God, Archie would spend hours reading, praying, and searching the Word through all avenues. God was there to reveal the scriptures and answer questions for him. As mentioned, in 1991, Archie came in contact with his childhood classmate of junior and senior high, Jacqueline Morris and would later say she was the love of his life. They married in 1995 and were together until the time of his death. Jacqueline was holding him as he took his last breath. Minister McPherson was predeceased by his parents, Pastor Isaiah and Annie Mae McPherson; one nephew, Archie Lorenzo McPherson; one niece, Sherrita McPherson; and step-son, James Leroy Mackey Jr. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Jacqueline Morris McPherson; two brothers, Leroy McPherson and Isaac (Virginia) McPherson; one sister, Betty (Ernest) Curry; step-daughter, Jenorise (George) Mejia; and the little joy of his life, step-grandson, Master Daniel James Mejia; also a very devoted brother-in-law, Harold Alonzo Morris; and wife's cousin, Tony Kilpatrick. Friends and family gathering Friday, May 19, at 5:00 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home at 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, 36605. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church, 1050 Duval Street, Mobile, AL. Entombment will follow in the Pine Crest Mausoleum at Pine Crest Cemetery on Dauphin Island Parkway. Pastor Byron Daniel officiating.
