Anne Cunningham Ritchie – an 89 year-old lifelong resident of Mobile passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mrs. Ritchie was named Mobile’s Mother of the Year in 1978. She served as a First Aid Attendant and Teacher’s Aid with the Mobile County Public School System for many years and was also a former Dorm Mother at Providence School of Nursing. Mrs. Ritchie was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Legion of Mary. She had a strong faith and belief in her Savior and possessed a strong religious conviction which she lived by.
Mrs. Ritchie was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Joseph Thomas Ritchie, and daughter, Laura Haley. She is survived by 13 children: Margaret Eastman (Tom), Thomas Ritchie (Cindy), Cynthia Fields (Chester), Michael Ritchie (Patsy), Joan Whitt, Ann Brock, Frances Engelman (William), Xavier Ritchie (Deborah), Mary Jo Reynolds (Charles), Hazel Carra (Lawrence), William Ritchie, Shannon Burdeos, and John Ritchie (Harriet); sister, Phylis Cunningham Crane; 28 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at Holy Family Catholic Church on Thursday, March 19, 2015, from 9-10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10 a.m. with Reverend Mark Neske serving as Celebrant of the Mass. Interment will be in Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1655 McGill Ave., Mobile, AL 36604.
