Angelo C. Harris III of Mobile, Alabama lost his battle with cancer on September 15, 2013. Angelo was born September 24, 1948 in Mobile, Alabama to Angelo C. Harris and Lillian Heiter Harris. A graduate of McGill Institute, the University of Alabama and the University of South Alabama, Angelo dedicated his life to teaching and coaching. In 1971 Angelo began his career at McGill-Toolen High School where he was privileged to work his entire career, impacting countless young lives, and affectionately known to all as "Coach".
Angelo had individual success as a track and field and cross-country athlete at McGill Institute and the University of Alabama, winning multiple titles, spanning state championships to SEC records. He was most proud of the numerous team accomplishments that he was a part of during his coaching career spanning four decades. These accomplishments earned Coach Harris induction to both the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame (class of 2012) and the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame (class of 2013).
Angelo is survived by his immediate family including his father Angelo Harris Jr.; his sister Theresa Harris Haughery and husband Read Haughery; his sister Janet Harris Rushing and husband Clay Rushing; his loving wife of 41 years Sandra Currie Harris; his daughter Jennifer Harris Sechler and husband Brent Sechler; his son Adam Harris and wife Alicia Harris; his two beautiful granddaughters Madelyn Harris and Lillian Harris;
Funeral services will be held September 18, 2013 at Little Flower Catholic Church. Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. The Funeral Mass will begin at 12:00 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions can be made to the McGill-Toolen Foundation or the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.
