Alton James Addy, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a 95 years old native of Stratton (Newton County) MS and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2018. Mr. Addy was a member of Luke 4:18 Fellowship. He and his family were also longtime members of Cottage Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and Dauphin Way Baptist Church. Mr. Addy was preceded in death by his loving and devoted Christian wife of 48 years, Margaret Glass Addy. Alton is survived by five sons, Reverend Lowell David Addy (Judy) of Wichita Falls, TX, Dr. Edward Alton Addy (Eleanor) of Orlando, FL, Philip Walter Addy (Cynthia) of Baton Rouge, LA, Richard Mark Addy of Youngsville, NC, Dr. Robert Clark Addy of Houston, TX, two grandsons, Mason Addy (Beth) of Dallas, TX and Lucas Addy of Brooklyn, NY, five granddaughters; Rachel Krausmann (Russell) of Orlando, FL, Rebekah Shbeeb (Gideon) of Orlando, FL, Melinda Van Dam of Annapolis, MD, Marci Addy (Travis) of Portland, OR and Melanie Addy, J.D., of Baton Rouge, LA. He is also survived by great-grandchildren; Cooper, Grayson, Annabelle, Adalyn, Kensley, Preston, Xavier and Blake. Mr. Addy was a veteran who served in the United States Army in World War II. He worked for the Federal Civil Service for twenty-five years at Brookley Air Force Base and Hawaiian Air Depot. Following closure of Brookley, he was employed by Ingalls Shipbuilding, Pascagoula, MS for twenty-one years. He retired in March, 1990. Alton was presented with many outstanding performance awards during his employment with these installations. During his retirement years, he enjoyed happy days with his family. He enjoyed growing flowers for the beauty and enjoyment of his family, neighbors and friends. He made sure there were flowers blooming at all times of the year. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Monday, July 16, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, it was Mr. Addy’s request that memorial contributions be made to Luke 4:18 Fellowship, 2664 Sollie Rd., Mobile, Al 36695.
