Allen Eugene Lewis, born in Denver, CO on December 3, 1935, spent most of his young life in Golden, CO with the last 51 years in Mobile, AL, passed away at the age of 86 on Sunday, March 6, 2022, after a long battle with lung cancer. He was a 1953 graduate of Golden High School, where he excelled in academics and sports.
He served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1961. He spent two of those years aboard a destroyer, the USS Goodrich, where he had the opportunity to travel the world. He met his wife Patricia soon after returning home and they remained married for nearly 50 years prior to her passing in March of 2010. He graduated from Colorado State University in 1964 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Out of college he was employed with Shell Chemical Company where he worked in the Ojai, CA, St. Helens, OR and Mobile, AL plants. The Mobile plant was purchased by DuPont, and he continued to work there until his retirement.
Allen was very active in his children’s youth sports, where he served on the Litte League Board of Directors, Shaw High School Athletic Boosters and coaching his daughter’s softball team. Allen, also known as Big Al, had a big personality and was loved by many,
He is preceded in death by the only love of his life, Patricia Lewis, his parents, Ralph and Kathryne Lewis. He is survived by his three children, son Tony Allen Lewis and his two children with Michelle – Kathryne Judge Lewis and Michael Cullen Lewis; son Terry Eugune Lewis (Teresa) and their three children – Hannah Nicole Collins, Jacob Allen Lewis and Gabrielle Lee Lewis all of Mobile, AL and daughter Valerie Jo Lewis Draper (Rich) and their two children – Charlotte Anderson Draper and Lucy Beesley Draper all of Atlanta, GA; 3 great grandchildren, Jocelyn Nicole, Evelyn Marie and Oliver Michael, a sister Lois Nankervis, a brother Bill Lewis (Linda), 3 nieces and 2 nephews.
Friends are invited to visit with the family and celebrate his life on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home (Dauphin St). Burial services will be held later in Golden, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
