Our kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, friend and hero passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, June 1, 2024. David Kirk Davis was born on June 11, 1956 to Jesse Neal and Audrey Norberg Davis, the youngest of four boys. Theirs was an active, noisy, fun and athletic household.
Kirk enjoyed sports of all kinds, particularly basketball, football and track. He lettered in all 3 sports at Cottonwood High School. After high school graduation, he earned a track scholarship to the University of Utah under Coach Pete Carlson. In the fall of 1975 he accepted a mission call for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to serve in the Torreon, Mexico Mission.
When he returned from his mission, he earned an academic scholarship and resumed his studies at the University of Utah. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Accounting. He moved to California and spent most of the next 33 years working in the commercial building business for The O’Donnell Group and in the home building business with IHP Capital partners.
In 1991, he met his loving and devoted wife, Alana Jean Thompson. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 6, 1992. Despite the many hardships, they made a beautiful life together. They are the parents of Hayden Kirk (Tori McClellan) and Hailey Michelle (Matthew Frederickson). They are the grandparents of two beautiful granddaughters, Soleil Eden Davis and Eloise Michelle Frederickson, with a sibling for Eloise on the way.
Kirk, Alana and their family have made many wonderful memories together. Celebrating holidays in Utah with their family, watching their kids play sports over the years, days at Disneyland and many wonderful vacations are just a few. Some of their favorite places they traveled were London, Paris and Hawaii.
Kirk cherished being an ordinance worker in the Newport Beach Temple for nearly 10 years. He also enjoyed teaching the temple preparation class for members of his church congregation, teaching the youth and being the High Priest Group leader for over seven years. He took his ministering responsibilities very seriously. Delivering homemade Pumpkin pies to his families for the Thanksgiving Holidays was something he truly enjoyed. Always an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he remained true and faithful throughout his life. He lived his testimony and never hesitated to speak of gospel truths – particularly his love of the Book of Mormon and the blessings of attending the temple. He always taught: If you keep God’s commandments you will prosper in the land. The last advice he gave to his family was to be sure to go to church each week. Attend the temple once a month if possible. And, love and provide for your families.
He is survived by his wife, Alana; his children Hayden and Tori Davis; Hailey and Matthew Frederickson; and granddaughters Soleil Davis and Eloise Frederickson. He is also survived by his mother Audrey Davis and his brothers Steve (Cathy) Davis, Greg (Kellie) Davis and Jon (Anna) Davis; as well as his in-laws, Jay and Enid Thompson, Cory (Vonya) Thompson, Kyle (Katy) Thompson, and Krey (Francine) Thompson. He has many beloved nieces and nephews. He also has a strong bond and love for the Margaret Miller family that has treated him like their own son, brother and grandfather.
Kirk attained hero status in our eyes as he battled many serious health issues for the last 27 years. We would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and care teams that watched over him these many years, particularly Dr. Gregory Katz, his assistant Madena, Dr. Dipti Itchhaporia, Dr. Donald Abrahm and the transplant team at Keck Medicine of USC.
His father, Jesse Neal Davis, his sister in law Robin Russell Thompson, and his nephew Brendan Clayne Thompson, preceded him in death.
There will be services in California on June 8. A viewing will take place at 4 p.m. with a funeral following at 5 p.m. Both will take place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 29441 Altisima, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688. A graveside service will take place June 15 at 11 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, located at 3401 S. Highland Drive, Millcreek, UT.
