Lito, as we all knew him, was born on February 15, 1947 in El Tepehuaje, Tamaulipas to Jose and Tomasita Acevedo.
In 1970, he migrated to Gilroy, California to work with his three older brothers. He would return to Mexico and marry the love of his life, Juana Alaffa, in 1972. He worked in Gilroy, California for Robert “Bob” Lindeleaf at Lindeleaf Farms as a tractor operator/diesel mechanic until the mid 80’s. He would later work for Dirk Buchser and Edwin “Eddie” Tognetti of B&T Farms as a diesel mechanic until his retirement. People might not know it but Porfirio was also an inventor. In the late 80’s he and a co-worker converted a tomato harvester and converted it into an automated corn harvester.
Upon retirement, the Acevedo’s moved to Mission Texas to be near their family in Texas and Mexico.
Porfirio shared a passion for boxing, baseball, auto mechanics, dove hunting, lottery scratchers, and playing slots (maquintas). However, his greatest passion was starting up the barbeque pit and grilling for family. His happiest moments were weekend gatherings in Gilroy when all the Acevedo brothers would get together and barbeque with their parents and children.
Porfirio was preceded in death by his father Jose Acevedo Barrera, his mother Tomasita Salazar Olivo, bothers Juan Angel Acevedo, Adolfo Acevedo, and Jose Aretemio Acevedo.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Juanita Acevedo; his son Jaime Acevedo and wife Miriam, daughter Cynthia Acevedo, and grandchildren Amairani Sarahi De La Garza, Damaris Anayli De La Garza, Angel Gabriel De La Garza, and Juan Angel Acevedo.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 from 2:00pm-9:00pm at Funeraria del Angel in Mission with a rosary at 6:00pm and mass at 7:00pm.
