Melvin L. Morris, age 91, of Palmview, Texas passed away peacefully Monday night, March 13, 2023 at the Alfredo Gonzales Texas State Veterans Home. He is survived by a loving wife, Kathleen, a brother, Howard, four children - Lloyd, Nathan, Kevin, and Laura, twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Mel grew up in Elgin, Ohio where he graduated from Spencerville High School. After learning to fly, he would perform acrobatic stunts with his airplane over the farm where Kathleen lived, much to her father’s disdain. Shortly afterwards, he enlisted in the Army and served as an Army Ranger with the rank of Master Sergeant during the Korean War.
He loved singing in church and ended up joining a quartet called the Gospelaires, traveling all over singing gospel songs. After retiring, he even published a CD called “Just Mel”.
Mel was also an inventor. Before retiring from Textron, he developed a new airfoil measurement method using lasers to measure aircraft engine blades more quickly and accurately than the old method, saving the company millions of dollars. He was quite proud when he was granted a patent from the United States Patent Office for his invention.
Mel was an avid golfer, with many trophies to show for it. He lived life to the fullest and would do anything for his friends and family. He made everyone who knew him laugh at his corny jokes and stories; teasing anyone and everyone with his quick and witty comments, whether friend or stranger.
Our family is grateful to know that he is finally at peace. Services will be held at Funeraria Del Angel on March 21, 2023 from 5-9pm with the Prayer and Eulogy service at 7:00pm, all are welcome.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.funerariadelangelmission.com for the Morris family.
