The Brooklyn College Foundation supports Brooklyn College in its mission to provide affordable access to excellent higher education. The foundation’s programs include student scholarships, awards, monetary support for travel, as well as funding for faculty research endowed professorships. This year alone, the foundation financed $1.4 million in scholarships and awards to nearly 1,200 students; $243,000 for professorships; and more than $50,000 in travel stipends to students and faculty.
Brooklyn College, Emil's alma mater, established in 1930, is affiliated with the City University system of New York. Often referred to as "the poor man's Harvard," Brooklyn College continues to provide a stellar, yet affordable, college experience for the its diverse student population. Situated in a country where education costs are rising daily, Brooklyn College's mission hopes to provide a respite from this sad reality. Along with this commitment to affordable high-quality education for the people, Brooklyn College seeks to develop "students who are engaged in the life of the college and [their] community, and are prepared to think critically, lead responsibly, act ethically, and contribute globally." As Robert Hess, a former Brooklyn College President, once said "I like to think of Harvard as the rich man's Brooklyn College."
