The precious youngest son, of Tom and Sharlene Brooks and youngest brother to Corine (Nathan) and Trevor(Alyssa), Riley Adam Brooks, arrived in this world on his own time and in his own free-spirited way on June 20, 1990 at Richmond General Hospital and after 34 years, has been ushered into the safe and loving arms of Jesus on January 07, 2025.
As a youngster, he was easy-going, flexible and would always try to keep up with his older sister and brother (which generally involved some mischief). Riley had a strong sense of family and was a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, grandson and friend. We are broken hearted that he has gone on ahead of us, but to be true to his life philosophy, we will do our best to live life to the fullest, let go of the ‘small stuff’ and enjoy the journey and be sure to have fun along the way.
Taking cues from his older brother, Riley played hockey (for many years) and lacrosse. In recent years he developed a love for tennis and in true Riley fashion worked to master it. Camping, a long-standing family sport – Riley made sure it was a sport and always an adventure. He loved nature and would seize any opportunity to be outdoors to enjoy the expanse and peace of God’s creation.
After graduating high school Riley was passionate about serving his country, so he joined the military for a period of time then resumed civilian life. His work experience is wide and varied, from food services, construction to auto sales. His work ethic was unmatched, and he would work to be the best in whatever he put his hand to. He was relatable and inspired those he worked alongside to be their best. He was entrepreneurial and had good sense when it came to business.
He was larger than life and had an unforgettable personality. Although his struggle with alcohol was real, it did not define him. Riley was humorous, caring and deeply compassionate toward others. He was a joy to be around and accepted people where they were at without judgement. He was quick to offer a hand to anyone who needed it.
More than anything, Riley lived his faith out loud, not afraid to share his experiences of his faith in God. Sundays he could be found in church “filling his soul” as he would say. It was not uncommon for him to have a book of inspirational readings on his desk and would give full credit of his blessings to God.
Riley being deeply compassionate and believing in helping others by offering a hand up, in lieu of flowers, if you wish, you are welcome to make a donation to Cherub’s Inn in Riley’s honour - Cherub’s Inn, a charity founded by the Brooks family and was dear to Riley’s heart. https://www.cherubsinn.ca/donate
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 25, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. - Parkside Church (33837 Prentis Ave Mission) will be hosting the service. Riley’s Celebration of Life will also be live streamed and can be viewed at, https://live.parksidechurch.ca/
We loved Riley deeply for the gift he was to all of us, rest easy dear one until we see you again.
