Steve was born in Mount Holly, North Carolina on December 12, 1946. He graduated from University of North Carolina at Charlotte and worked for many years in business management with truck leasing and construction before retiring. Steve was married to Linda Brown Horton for 45 years until her death in 2013. He was a Mint Hill town commissioner for 18 years and an elder and Sunday School teacher for the Pairs and Spares Class at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church.
Steve married Sandra Sharp in 2016 and attended Faith Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill, SC. He loved to play golf, support UNC sports (especially basketball), travel, and spend time with his friends and family. He was an avid history buff and took numerous trips to Civil War sites. He volunteered with the Presbyterian Pilgrimage of North Carolina and Bonclarken, the ARP retreat center.
Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved his family beyond all else. He is survived by his wife, Sandy of Fort Mill; daughter Dr. Marnie Gallagher and husband, Dr. Dave Gallagher and their children, Jake and Ella of Mint Hill, NC; son, Jason Horton and wife Dr. Janet Horton and their children Anna, Ben and Eli of Durham, NC; his brothers Larry and Garry Horton. He is also survived by 2 stepchildren Ben Brown and wife Jennifer and their children Alex and Holly of Laguna Beach, CA and Beth McManus and husband Reverend James McManus and children Maggie, Hannah and Patrick of Winnsboro, SC.
A service to celebrate the life of Steve Horton will be held on July 9, 2022 at 3:00pm at McEwen Funeral Service - Mint Hill Chapel 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, NC 28227. The family with receive visitors after the service.
