Mrs. Smith was born the youngest of eight in Syracuse New York, June 12, 1951, to Gerald Whitney, Sr. and Rosemary DeRoshia Whitney. She graduated from Liverpool High School, attended Marymount College of Tarrytown (now Fordum University), attained the Certified Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation and retired from Royal and Sun Alliance Insurance. Jeanette enjoyed traveling, flea markets, dining out, attending Clemson football games, computer games, and playing board games with friends and family.
In addition to her parents, Jeanette was predeceased by brothers, Gerald Whitney Jr., Harold Whitney and Richard Whitney and sisters, Pauline Hoffman and Eleanor Snow.
She is survived by her devoted husband, David Smith of Concord, North Carolina; brother, Edwin Whitney and sister, Patricia LaFlair, both of Liverpool, New York; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 8, at Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Matthews.
The family wishes to thank caregivers Stephanie Collins, Megan Wall, Dodie Bowman and Vickie Cooper.
