

Born December 26, 1934, in Green Bay, WI, to Henry & Cora (Doolan) Wittig, he married the love of his life, Marilyn (Kurszewski), on August 27, 1960 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She died on August 6, 2013.
Jim is survived by his 5 children, Stephan J. (Lynda) of Millersville, MD, Mary K. (Robert) Avina of Tucson, AZ, Barbara A. (Thomas) Bingham of Urbana, IL, Elizabeth M. Wittig of Independence, MO and Mark J. (Shannon) Wittig of Weddington, NC; seven grandchildren, Samuel, Caleb & Amelia Wittig, Lucas Schneider, and Ethan, Jacob and Owen Wittig; his brother David, three sisters-in-law, Bonita (Jerry) Stadler, Mary (Ray) Ellenberger, Betsy Biebel, one brother-in-law, Martin Biebel, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary, and grandson, Kyle Wittig Schneider.
Jim graduated from Central Catholic High School in Green Bay and attended St. Norbert’s College.
He was employed by Chevrolet Motor Division for 33 years, retiring in1992. He was very proud of his days at Chevrolet and would often tell stories of his Chevrolet Days.
Jim was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Charlotte, ushering until he was 86 years old.
The family would like to thank all of Jim’s caregivers and the staff at Presbyterian Hospital for their kind and caring support.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, April 2nd, 2022 at 11:00am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church 8451 Idlewild Rd. Charlotte, NC 28227 with Father Peter officiating. Interment will be at Allouez Catholic Cemetery in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Newman Catholic Church in James Wittig’s name , or a charity of the donor’s choice.
