During the past 28 years, He and Linda resided in Bettendorf, Iowa, and found lasting friendships there. Mike had returned to his hometown of Charlotte, NC, in 2021 and had enjoyed being back with family. He had a long-time battle with Alzheimer’s and had recently experienced additional medical complications. In everything, Mike maintained his good humor and eternal smile. He is so beloved and will be missed by so many including his wife of 55 years, Linda Hargett Turner, and his son, Jonathan Michael Turner, who was the light of his life.
Mike graduated from Garinger High School in 1964 and went on to further his education by attending Wake Forest University and later receiving his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Masters Degree from Duke University. He spent his career in Information Services working mainly in the food business industry: earlier at Biggers Brothers in Charlotte, NC, and retiring in 2009 from Performance Food Group in Rock Island, Illinois.
Mike was born April 30, 1946, in Charlotte, NC, to William Frank Turner and Viola Mae Newell Turner, both predeceased him. He is survived by his wife Linda and son Jonathan (Karrie) as well as brother David Frank Turner (Barbara), niece Nancy Trammel (Paul) and nephew Bryan Turner (Bama) and many great nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother William Wayne Turner. Mike was just as loved by his wife’s family who had accepted him as their own. He is survived by his sister-n-law, Barbara Hargett Garrison (Barry) and nieces Nicole Mintz (David) and Natalie Sielaff (Tim) and wonderful great nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church, 6740 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be sent to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or Hospice.
