On the morning of October 2, 2020, Gary Wriston Cox, 68, went to his heavenly home.
He was preceded in death by his father Lex Vernon Cox and mother Helen Towery Cox.
Gary was a scientist who loved the wonders of the universe. He delighted in observing the stars and sky with hand-built telescopes. He marveled in viewing meteor showers and late-night comet sightings. Solar eclipses were momentous events he enjoyed capturing on camera. Gary was a geologist by profession, studying at Wingate University and later receiving his masters at N.C. State. After completing his education, he worked for Conoco and other major oil companies traveling around the world.
He is survived by fiancée Stephaney Grooms, sister Sheila Haene (Glenn), nieces Anna Jordan (Jeff), Aleah Adams (Troy) and four great nephews.
A private service will be held at a later date due to COVID19.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or charity of choice.
