Lamar served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. He married Dwanda Darlene Weatherford of Philadelphia Mississippi on January 29, 1954 and they had three children.
Lamar graduated from Mississippi State with a Bachelor in Science of Agricultural Education in 1957 followed by a Masters and Doctoral degrees in Agricultural Education from Pennsylvania State University in 1961 and 1964 respectively.
Lamar accepted a Professorship position in 1965 with the University of Arkansas teaching undergraduate and graduate level classes, advising Master’s degree candidates, and chairing committees for specialist and doctoral degree candidates. He also served on department, college, university and state board committees in education and manpower development. He retired from the University of Arkansas in June 1992 and spent the next 20 years traveling with Dwanda while living part time in Arkansas, Florida and Virginia. He moved to Matthews in 2012.
Lamar is survived by his wife, Dwanda Love, Jeems Love of White Stone VA, Patti Steward of Broken Arrow OK and Margaret Bolding of Mint Hill NC, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by Harold Love of Malden MO and Nina O’Campo of Bartlett TN. He loved his family very deeply and was a completely committed Christian whose journey is complete on earth.
