Born November 25, 1931 in Bladen County, NC, Mr. Thompson was a son of the late Graham Preston Thompson and Maizie Vivian Thompson. He was a graduate of Clarkton High School in Clarkton, NC, and served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Thompson worked in the tobacco industry, and later with Observer Transportation. In 1973, he opened his own trucking company. He was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Sue Thompson, a sister, Gayle Suggs, and a brother, Derwood Thompson.
He is survived by his wife, Aileen Thompson; two children, Jeffery Thompson and his wife, Charleen, of Matthews, and Marcia Hinson and her husband, Scott, of Mint Hill; two brothers, Douglas Thompson and his wife, Betty, of Bladenboro, and Jelder Thompson and his wife, Delcena, of Morehead City; and two sisters, Alma Jean Smith and Ann Dulin, both of Charlotte. Mr. Thompson is also survived by four grandchildren, Joshua Thompson, his wife, Sarah, and their children, Caleigh and Levi, all of Wingate, Stephanie Hill, her husband, Clint, and their children, Silas, Canyon, Branson, and Blythe, all of Indian Trail, Zachary Thompson of West Point Military Academy, and Taylor Thompson of Matthews.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Albert Leath will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
