On Thursday October 4th, 2018, Sang Hui Jacobson (한상희) passed away to join Our Heavenly Lord. Sang Hui was a dear mother of two daughters, grandmother to two beautiful grandchildren, a beloved child of Our Holy God, and a most faithful servant. Though she was taken from us so suddenly, we believe she felt no pain when after watching the sun rise with her two daughters she "...met morning with her own breath."
Born November 7th, 1949 in Daegu, South Korea, Sang Hui was born the eldest daughter of six. She was gifted in mathematics and arts from a young age. Whether it was through her cooking, gardening, crafts such as crocheting and knitting, organizing, or drawing, she had a magical and natural-born gift for anything that involved the use of her hands. An avid learner her entire life, she could rarely be found without a notebook and pen in her purse, writing down everything she could. Since her youth, she set the bar high for herself and for those around her, challenged the status quo, and built friendships that knew no boundaries. Throughout all of life’s obstacles she had endured both in Korea and later in America, she never lost her fiery spirit, faith, and determination.
During her lifetime, Sang Hui chose to spend her time serving the Lord in many different ways. Both in Korea and here in the U.S., she could be found baking cupcakes at 5am for Sunday school students' birthdays, singing in the church choir, and organizing sales to sell food and donated goods to raise funds for missions. For many years in Korea, she taught Sunday school and would visit Hope orphanage for disabled children, helping them raise money by selling their handmade Christmas cards. She could often be found cooking every Saturday and Sunday for church services and events, inviting any and all to come and eat, especially students. She freely gave her energy, time, and resources to help others experience the joy and heart of Christ. Most recently she did this by volunteering with Loaves and Fishes, SUNNY, and by helping coordinate the White House sales held at Brooklyn United Methodist. Sang Hui put her entire soul into the food she made, whether it was for her family or those in need. She spent her last years caring for her two granddaughters, filling their days with songs, learning, laughter, teaching them how to love and be loved, and of course, filling their bellies with delicious meals.
Sang Hui is survived by her daughters Lisa Kelley of Seoul, South Korea and Jennifer Kelley Broden (Brent) of Brooklyn Park, MN, siblings Ji Hae Han and Jung Oong Han of Daegu, South Korea, and granddaughters Evelyn and Caroline Broden.
We will celebrate her life and legacy beginning with visitation on Sunday October 14th at 2pm, followed by her funeral service at 3pm (Brooklyn United Methodist Church, 7200 Brooklyn Blvd, Brooklyn Center, MN 55429). Interment will take place on Monday October 15th at 9am (Sunset Cemetery, 2250 St. Anthony Blvd, St. Anthony, MN 55418) where she will be laid to rest alongside several of her beloved late friends from the Korean United Methodist Church of Minnesota where she and her family served for over ten years. In honor of Sang Hui and her love for flowers, the family asks that those in attendance wear bright colors. We pray now that she may find rest, peace, and comfort now for eternity. She will be greatly missed but we never forgotten. May all those she loved and served use their gifts to glorify Him.
1 Peter 4:10-11
"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies-in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ."
"각각 은사를 받은 대로 하나님의 각양 은혜를 맡은 선한 청지기같이 서로 봉사하라. 만일 누가 말하려면 하나님의 말씀을 하는 것같이 하고 누가 봉사하려면 하나님의 공급하시는 힘으로 하는 것같이 하라 이는 범사에 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님이 영광을 받으시게 하려 함이니 그에게 영광과 권능이 세세에 무궁토록 있느니라 아멘."
