Miller, Melvin C. (Mel) at 84 years, of Bloomington, MN, was called home to our Lord on February 21. He was born in South Sioux City, Nebraska, on May 14, 1937. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Marie Miller; parents - Burl Miller and Lillie (Laird) Miller; his brother, Marvin Miller and sister, Darlene Smith. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce (Holm) Miller and their four children, Randy Miller (Andrea), James Miller (Ann), Gary Miller (Lynn) and Julee Stoesz (Tim). Additional survivors are brother Bill Miller; sisters, Charlyne Cameron and Karen Gatzemeyer. He was a caring and loving grandfather to eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Melvin was known to many as the meat market manager. He was a graduate of South Sioux City High School. He started his career in the meat market in South Sioux City. In 1963, Mel moved his family to Fort Dodge Iowa and worked for National Grocery. In 1973, the family moved one more time to Bloomington, MN where Melvin continued his employment for National until his move to Super Valu where he worked until the day he retired.
Melvin met his lovely bride, Joyce, in Sioux City, IA. Melvin served in the Iowa Army National Guard for 6 years.
Mel loved being outdoors, fishing and gardening. He and his family traveled all over the western US with their station wagon and pop-up camper. After retirement, he and Joyce continued their travels visiting 49 out of the 50 states, as well as trips to the Middle East and Europe. Melvin was also an avid woodworker and square dancer.
Dad’s grin, humor, dedication and unconditional love were his gifts that will endure and be remembered by all who knew him. His legacy of deep faith is treasured and a testament to leading a beautiful, faith-filled and well-lived life.
Visitation for Melvin will be held Friday, March 11th 10am until time of service at 11am at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 9201 Normandale Blvd, Bloomington, MN.
Burial will take place Monday, March 14th at 11am at Memorial Park Cemetery, 6605 Morningside Ave, Sioux City, IA, 51106.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Melvin’s name to Children’s Home Society of MN.
