Peter was born on December 16th, 1930 in West Hemstead, New York.
Peter served in the U.S. Marines from February 7, 1952 to February 6, 1954.
Peter was a lifelong welder by trade. Peter's father, Angelo Balafas, started what would become the family business in 1940. In it's early days it was called Port Jefferson Welding. The name was changed in 1954, when Peter returned from the Marines, to Balafas and Sons and in the late 60's to Balafas Welding Service. Peter welded side by side most of his adult life with his brother and friend, James Balafas Their business motto was, "We Can Weld Anything But A Broken Heart."
He leaves behind his loving wife of forty-five years, Patricia Balafas, son Stanley Balafas, Daughters Irene Rubino and Stacy Sabini. Additionally Peter will be missed greatly by his beloved grandchildren Nicholas, Gianna, Peter, Ethan, and Chloe.
