On Thursday, March 16, 2023, Mary “Lynn” Scully, loving mother of four, passed away at age eighty-four. Before her illness overtook her Mary served at Stony Brook University for thirty-one years, most recently as the administrative assistant for the Seawolves mens basketball program. A die-hard Sea Wolves fan, she could frequently be found courtside endearing bystanders with her colorful commentary as she rooted for her favorite team. She was a former Eucharist Minister and catechism instructor of St. Louis de Montfort parish and a parishioner for over fifty years. In addition, she was a member and former president of the MPFD Ladies Auxiliary, a member and former president of the Columbiettes chapter and an active member of the Mount Sinai Yacht Club.
Mary will be warmly remembered for among other things her wonderful family tradition of spending days preparing love-filled, home cooked meals. A passion and talent she lovingly passed on to her children and grandchildren over the years.
Mary was born Mary Carolynn Hohmann in 1939 in Manhattan, New York, where she grew up with her beloved sister Teresa "TC" and brother Arthur "Bud" who have since passed. In 1962 she married her now departed husband, Denis and moved to Miller Place from Flushing Queens in 1969 where they raised four children. She is survived by her four children Paul, Peter, Colleen and Patrick, her daughter-in-law Linda and three grandchildren, Annika, Kierra and Jack Scully.
In lieu of flowers donations to be made in Mary’s name to the Men’s or Women’s Basketball Fund for Excellence.
