Mae and I were neighbors in NY for me just shy of 25 years for her a lifetime.    What a sweet Women with an even sweeter spirit.  Mae always had a smile on her face and a spring in her step.  Mae would tell me stories of how my house was built back in 1961, she always amazed me with the level of detail she remembered.  Prior to Mae moving to Florida Mae spent an afternoon with me as her house was on the market and she had to vacate for the day for realtors to show.  We had lunch together which included lots of laughs as she reminisced about her memories here in Miller Place.  She will certainly be missed ..

How sad an icon of MSRC.  

My wife Chandra (late) and I knew Mae when I was a student in MSRC, 1988 to 1998.    Even though Chandra was not all that fluent in English Mae and Chandra were quite good friends.  We even visited Mae at least twice at home and hospital.  I think she had a heart attack.  Mae also often dropped in the SUNY hospital to see Chandra while she was being treated for cancer.

Oh gosh, where do I start with good things to say and fond memories of Mae. I had the honor to meet her when I was working on my master's degree at SoMAS (MSRC). No matter what was going on, Mae always had a word of encouragement and I always loved our chats. We would chat and catch up and I always looked forward to her smiles. She radiated warmth, kindness, and spunk!  My condolences and prayers for her family.  I am among many that count themselves blessed to have known her.

Our deepest condolences from everyone in our family. It is never easy to lose a loved one no matter how old. Though you will never get over her loss with the help of friends and family you can get through it!!🙏  MRS. Johnson is at peace now. We pray to heal the hurt the family feels. I actually met Mrs. Johnson at a laundry mat and I would see her there every Sunday. Every Sunday with at beautiful smile and positive chipper attitude. She always made me smile and made my day. She worked hard and took great care of her family. We will all miss her dearly. May she Rest In Peace .

Mae was such a great person and it was a joy to see her at work everyday at SOMAS ( MSRC).  She had a gift of gab, loved people and never complained. Mae kept Endeavour Hall spotless especially the floors. You could see your reflection in them. When she retired we had a nice retirement party for her. I think she even had a beer or two or maybe it was wine and then loved to dance! Mae was loved by everyone and will be missed. May she rest in peace. >>>Cliff Jones retired Facilities Manager

I William H. Johnson could not have been born to have a more loving and beautiful first cousin than May. She and her sister Marie baby Sat me as a child and protected me as I grew older.  She didn't necessarily wanted to all the time but this is how families CARED for each other. I will always remember how beautiful she was and how hard she worked, life wasn't easy so you had to do what was BEST and she did that.  I'm sure Marie will remember the oil painting that someone  had done of cousin May, I truly wish it was available today.
She has earned her Wings and will now join the other family members but her WORK and LOVE here on EARTH will always be remembered. Continue to REST my LOVING cousin until we meet again I will LOVE YOU.

Aunt Mae was the matriarch of the Johnson family.  We will miss her smile, her hugs, her laughter. Everything about her puts a smile on your face. Aunt Mae you have your angel wings now and you will always be in our hearts.  Our Beloved Angel.            We love you.

Mae was a beautiful, kind person, and touched the lives of so many. My family was fortunate, to have you, be such an  important part of our family.  Many of my best memories in life, are the moments, I was blessed to spend with you. I enjoyed our family trips to the casino. Our time spent  together on holidays and at  family parties. I loved seeing you in the grocery store. Those who touch  our lives stay in our hearts forever. Love, Chrissy

It is with great reflection that I write this. One of my first memories  of Mae is when I was about 7. Mae helped me fill my never ending bushel of string beans on the farm. I was feeling defeated that my basket never seemed to be filling up. There was Mae to lend a hand & make the situation seem brighter. She always made my mother and I feel like such an important part of the family. She would invite us for Thanksgivings, Christmas's and other occasions. She was always truly happy to see us and include us. Mae is a strong example of someone who never let life run her over. She always picked herself up and kept going. Never truly letting on what she was feeling. She enjoyed going to Westhampton Raceway on Sundays. We would often see her there. Sometimes we'd sit together and enjoy the day. Other times, she liked the peacefulness of being by herself with us a few rows away. Any memory I have of Mae is always a happy one. I will always appreciate her warmth and thoughtfulness. When I think of her I can't  help but smile. Love you forever Mae. Chris 

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be.  
So He put his arms around you and whispered Come With Me.
With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.

My condolences to Mae's family.  I was employed at Stony Brook University's Marine Sciences Research Center for, I believe, the entire time that Mae was janitoring there.  We became quite close over those years.  May was a loving, strong and fun person.  One regret I do have is that she and I never went to one of the casinos in the region, where I could really see Mae do her stuff!  She was a friend to all at MSRC and you could eat off the floors she tended.  We lost touch once she retired but I always remembered Mae fondly and I always will.  We could use as many Mae Johnsons as we could get these days...
