During World War II, George enlisted in the Navy. He was assigned to the USS French Destroyer Escort that served the Pacific Theater. His job was a fire control man so he maintained the gunnery aboard the ship. Five of his friends on the hockey team were killed during the war, one being his best friend, and hockey buddy, Gerard, who died on the ship The Arizona the day Pearl Harbor was attacked.
Upon his return from military service, George married the love of his life, Mary Devlin. He worked in Nassau County for Sperry Gyroscope for a short time. In 1949, he became a police officer assigned to the Emergency Service Unit. He retired after 26 years and he and Mary moved to Baiting Hollow until Mary passed away in 2006.
George loved to ride his bicycle to his daughter Diane's house, where he would visit with her and her husband Mike to share coffee and cake at the same time every day. A true patriot, George had endless stories of his life and career proving age really is just a number.
Beloved husband of the late Mary Christopher. Loving father of Diane Parr and her husband Michael and the late Michael Christopher. George is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
