A year has passed and you are sadly missed along life's way, quietly remembered every day.

C’est avec tristesse que j’ai appris le départ de ma tante Claudette.  Une personne emphatique, humaine pour qui la famille était si importante.   J’ai eu la chance et le bonheur de correspondre avec elle, un peu plus,  lors de la dernière année.  Elle m’a tellement aidée, avec ses bons mots et ses prières, à vivre une période très difficile (le cancer de ma petite-fille Lauriane).  Je suis certaine qu’elle continuera à veiller sur elle. Je viens tout juste d'apprendre le décès de Claudette, notre tante, la dernière de la grande  famille des Fortin. Je pense à elle, la femme, la mère, la grand-mère, l'amie, et à tout ceux qui restent, privés à jamais de sa présence. Du plus profond de mon coeur je vous envoie mes plus sincères sympathies et je demande au Seigneur de l'accueillir dans Sa Lumière.
 C'était une femme courageuse et qui n'a jamais cessé d'être présente pour ses proches, même pour nous de la famille Fortin qui étions plus loin.  Nous communiquions régulièrement avec elle, toujours en français, une langue qu'elle maitrisait parfaitement, même après de nombreuses années passées aux Etats Unis. 
Au revoir Claudette, veille sur nous avec tous ceux qui nous ont déjà quittés.

Mrs Kosciuk was a wonderful,  talented, kind human being.  I had the honor of working with her for many years at St. Louis,  and she was always gracious, always smiling. She will be missed. So very sad to hear this.

Claudette was a lovely woman who gave our children the opportunity to share their musical talents at Mass. Her faith was an awesome thing to behold and her devotion to St. Louis deMontfort was selfless. She will be missed deeply by all. Thank you for your service, the McGinn family

My favorite memories of Claudette were the never-ending efforts  she put into the special holidays: Easter and Christmas.  I loved being on choir duty while my kids, Christopher and Kaitie, attended choir.  She loved the kids.  She was a second mother to each and every kids and she never forgot a single one of the kids.  I will miss her enormously. 

What a beautiful, kind, talented woman. She will be sorely missed at St. Louis de Montfort Church. Rest in peace. 

So sorry to hear about Claudette's passing. I've enjoyed her beautiful voice for many years at St. Louis. Condolences to the Kosciuk family. 

For anyone who attends St. Louis de Montfort Parish, you know that Mrs. Kosciuk was a pillar of the church community. I grew up in Miller Place and attended school with one of her sons. As a Francophile, I loved to hear her accent. I had the opportunity to talk with her a bit a few years ago at the church while picking up my daughter from religion class. She was cordial and engaging as we talked about a trip to France that I had taken and my daughter’s interest in singing.  I cannot fathom a choir led by anyone else. She was a talented musician and a staple in the parish community. Mrs. Kosciuk had such a presence in front of the church as she led generations of parishioners in song and music. I hope she knew what an impact she had on so many. She will be missed.

Dear Family,

She was a warm, loving and caring person.  Whenever I saw her and spoke with her she made me smile.  Her pride and joy-her children.  Her partner and love-John.   Her solace and peace-music.
My heart goes out to you for your loss.  Hugs and kisses, love and prayers.

“When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure."  Claudette was so loved by so many, and we were all very blessed to have had her in our lives.  To know her as the kind, loving and giving person she was, and to have had the opportunity to share in her gift of music,  we are fortunate to be left with an abundance of fond memories. 

Claudette LOVED music and understood the impact it had on each and every one of us – and for that, she was very generous sharing her God given talent with us all - especially the children.  At the conclusion of every performance by the Children’s or Youth Choir it was touching to see Claudette’s face light up with Joy – and yes, perhaps pride…not for herself, but for each of those youngsters she had nurtured and taught.  

Claudette also understood the purpose for Liturgical Music and its importance as an essential part of the Liturgy – always a compliment and enhancement, but never a distraction from the focus of the Liturgy.  Every hymn she chose was perfectly suited for each Service. Whether it was the simplicity of “The Little Drummer Boy”, or the grandeur of the “Hallelujah Chorus” she moved us all, and often to Tears of Joy and Hope.  Claudette and her music - THEY ARE the memories we are blessed to have, and in her passing they are now our treasures to hold.

My prayers go out for Claudette’s family, and to all who have been saddened by her loss.  I would like to close my reflection with a quote shared with Claudette after my mother’s passing.  She loved it, and understood its importance for those who had to move on after the loss of a loved one: “Each day will continue to come bearing its gifts. Always remember to untie its ribbons.”

Claudette, may God bless you and hold you in the palm of His hand. 


I worked with Claudette for many years as a cantor at church. She was a dedicated, kindhearted woman and will be missed by all.  

Claudette was a beautiful, kind Women. A pleasure to have known her. We will miss her presence. Sending love and support to her Family.

Our hearts were  sadden to hear of Aunt Claudette’s passing.  Her California family has so many fond memories of our visits back to New York, and we will cherish them in our hearts forever. How very blessed my family is to have known Claudette.  She was a true gift to us and to the St. Louis family. Her talents, kindness, hard work and gentle way will never be forgotten by those whose lives she touched. How grateful I am for all she did for my daughter through the years, as well. What a wonderful mentor and friend! 

How heartbroken we are to hear of Claudette’s passing. There will never be anyone like her and Mass will never be the same. But we have so many wonderful memories of so many special moments, Christmas Celebrations, choir concerts, NYSSMA concerts to encourage young people to continue their music, weddings (my daughter’s wedding this past November where Claudette shared her love and music so lovingly), and so many more. Certainly bitter-sweet at that moment. 

I pray for Claudette’s family and all those who loved her.

There are no words how sad my family is to hear of the passing of Claudette.  My daughters sang with her all through elementary school through their senior year in high school. She was the sweetest and most kindest soul. She helped me through the pain of losing my father by being there for me and speaking with me and sang at his funeral. I will never forget her huge smile especially after singing little drummer boy with the choir and how proud she was of everyone who sang. Christmas choir was absolutely beautiful because of her.  We always ended the mass when the children sang with a hug from Claudette. Thank you for giving me beautiful memories of my children growing up singing with you. Heaven gained the biggest angel ever.  God Bless you Claudette. ♥️ 

We were members of the St. Louis Parish family for over twenty years. During that time it was a blessing to have known Claudette. 
She was a beautiful women and a great servant of the Lord. She brought many to the Lord through her music.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Claudette. My daughter, Emily, and I both took piano lessons from Claudette and my daughter sang in the children’s choir and played the flute. Claudette was always so encouraging and such an inspiration for us. She was loved and will be greatly missed.

My husband and I heard of Mrs. Kosciuk’s passing at stations of the cross at St. Louis de Montfort this evening. I cannot tell you how sad we are to hear of her passing. We moved here in 1999 and Mrs. Kosciuk has been a staple in our lives since then. All three of my children were in her choir from fourth grade until graduating high school. She was a great lady and we will miss her.
