William Patrick (Pat) Scruggs died in the presence of family on May 4, 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 81 from complications following an accident. He was greatly loved and will be truly missed.
Pat was proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Suzanne (Sue) Nielson Scruggs, who died in September of 2016. He is survived by his son Samuel Dixon Scruggs of Salt Lake City and his daughter and son-in-law Sara Scruggs Anderson and Eric Douglas Anderson of Atlanta Georgia; and by six grandchildren, Samuel, Madison, Eric Jr., Brittany, Austin and Ashley, a great grandchild, Savannah, and a niece Gillian Kay Pilgrim. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Shepard Scruggs.
He was born on September 7, 1935 in Sacramento, California to Samuel Roy Scruggs and Maude May McMahan. After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, Pat moved to San Francisco, California where he met Sue. They were married in 1958. They made their home in a number of states before moving to Salt Lake City in 1981.
Pat had a long career in retail, working as a buyer and merchandise manager for a number of leading companies before opening his own businesses, first in Colorado and later in Utah. Following his retirement from retail in 2010, Pat volunteered as a facilitator for the Addiction Recovery Program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he influenced many lives for the better.
He honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve and also served his church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in a number of capacities. Pat enjoyed travel, visiting many countries for business and pleasure. He had a keen interest in art and music, was an avid gardener and nearly unbeatable card player.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 12 at 11:00 AM at the chapel at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84106. A viewing with be held prior to the funeral services from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park will follow the funeral services.
