September 10, 1928- January 7, 2024
Vivian Card Loya, aged 95, passed away peacefully at home on January 7, 2024. She spent her last days enveloped in the love of her family and friends.
Vivian was born September 10, 1928, at home in Salem, Utah, the fifth child of Louisa Viola Stone and Walter Clare Card. According to her mother’s diary, her due date came and passed in late August. The baby had pretty gray eyes that looked with interest at the world around her. Her hair was dark and silky and grew so fast that it had to be trimmed just ten days later. She grew to be noted for her movie star looks, living a life that could match the drama, plot twists, and passion of any Hollywood film. She had a voracious appetite for books because of her thirst for knowledge.
Her ardor for music and dance was only surpassed by her love for her family. Vivian had three children with her first husband: Sharon, Carolyn, and Alyn. After the dissolution of her marriage, she met the love of her life, Leo Ralph Loya. He knew he would marry her the moment he saw her, and his devotion to the beautiful, single mom won her over. They were married on January 24, 1954. Their children together, Tracy and Chris, completed the family. She loved being a mother and a homemaker with a gift for making things more beautiful through her labors.
Vivian had grit, grace, and intelligence, and will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Her disposition was sweet until game time began when her mischievous wit stole the show. Her smile could light the room, and she will be remembered for her optimism and strength as she danced through the challenges she faced in life. While those who love her mourn her, she’s finally reunited with her favorite partner as they dance together once again.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Leo R Loya, her parents, seven brothers and sisters and sons-in-law Ted Buckland and Bill Speaks. She is survived by her children: Sharon Buckland, Carolyn Fountaine (Paul), Alyn Loya (Pam), Tracy Speaks, Chris Loya (Maria), 17 grandkids, 35 great grandkids, her brother Gary Card (Joan), and sister Karma Childs (Doug).
The family would like to thank the first responders, hospital staff, and hospice workers that worked so diligently to assist her and the family in this transition.
