Paul left us peacefully Sunday, October 13, 2024, surrounded by family.
Born August 16, 1954 to Vincent and Florence Schaaf in Cumberland, Maryland. Paul is the second of five children. He loved his parents dearly. Both preceded him in death. He is survived by his “wif,” Karen J. Schaaf; two kiddos, Lauren (Duke) Heninger and Vincent Schaaf III; and four most amazing grandchildren, Amelia, Ivory, Bennett and Graham Heninger. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Schaaf (Gary Zega), Cathy (Jerry) Thom, Jim Schaaf, and Peggy (Steve) Rueckert, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear Aunt Bernie Francaviglia.
In high school, Paul worked for a neighbor, who mentored him in plumbing. This inspired him to begin trade school—and eventually obtain the training and certificates to become a Master Plumber. In 1981, Paul Married Karen Jolley from Provo, Utah. In 1983, Paul started his own company, Plumbing Plus, alongside his wife. Located in Sugar House, Plumbing Plus has been a fixture in the community for more than 40 years. He “did it all, and did it well.” Paul worked hard to serve his customers, whom he genuinely cared about.
As a plumber-contractor, he oversaw the major remodel and construction of his beautiful home. He was proud of this accomplishment and would often say, even decades later, “This is a nice house.” However, nothing compared to his pride in his children and grandchildren. He was often heard telling others about their accomplishments and abilities, and was so proud of the things they did, and the people they are. He loved them all dearly.
He was a “good driver” for all the family road trips, and especially loved going to their favorite places: Lake Tahoe, West Yellowstone, and the family “cabino.” Hobbies included cars, welding, attending baseball games, and golfing or getting coffee with friends.
Paul was full of quick quips, dad jokes and puns, he was so fun, and so funny. Common conversations included movie quotes, silly stories and voice imitations. He was so fun to be with! He loved family time and always had ideas up his sleeve for pumpkin carving, dyeing Easter eggs, and making memorable New Years Eve dinners.
Paul loved—and was loved by—so many. Whether it was flowers, cookies, song lyrics, or “spare money,” Paul loved giving people gifts. It was one of his favorite ways to show he cared about someone. We will miss him checking in on us, or dropping off a surprise treat.
We love you Paul.
Our husband/dad/Baba/brother/friend/family/colleague/boss/neighbor.
You did a good job.
