Sharon Rencher—Mother & Nana, sister & friend—returned home to her Heavenly Father on February 11, 2016. She was born in Burley, Idaho on April 14, 1933 to Alma and Vadna Holyoak. She married her sweetheart and eternal companion on June 24, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Mother grew up working on the family farms, graduating from Burley High with Honors, attending both the University of Utah and Brigham Young University, graduating with a composite degree in Home Economics as a Smith-Hughes scholar, including advanced studies in Psychology, Child Development, and Education. She taught her family the value of a good work ethic and a love of learning, books, and music.
Mother followed her best friend and sweetheart into the Air Force and around the country before settling in Salt Lake City, Utah, making life-long friends wherever they went. She taught at elementary, junior high, high school, and college levels. Mother was proud of her titles of teacher, wife, and mother.
Mother was a life-long active member of the LDS Church, serving in various teaching, music, and administrative positions. Mother loved her Primary callings, especially the many years spent as Primary pianist.
She is preceded in death by: her parents; her best friend, John; three brothers-in-law, and several great-nephews. She is survived by: sons John (Karen) Rencher, Jaryl (Julie) Rencher, Jaren (Leslie) Rencher; sister VerJean Sohm; in-laws Doris Rencher, Cherie Rencher, and Clifford (Helen) Rencher; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sat., Feb. 27 at the Fortuna Ward, 4407 S. Fortuna Way, SLC. Viewings at the church: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Fri., Feb. 26, and 9:00-10:30 prior to services. Interment at Wasatch Lawn, 3410 Highland Drive.
