Ross Richard Steed age 86 passed away 9/30/2015 in Salt Lake City. He was born 12/5/1928 in Salt Lake City to Ross Steed and Ida Howcroft Steed. He attended the University of Utah and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He married Shirley Drury on 4/4/1951 in the Salt Lake Temple.
As a career man at JC Penney Co. he lived by “The Golden Rule”. He used his skills in accounting to help others. He was dedicated to the Son’s of the Utah Pioneers and served as the National Treasurer and President of the Beehive chapter. He served the LDS church in various callings. At a young age he served in the Bishopric of the Dallas 3rd Ward. He was also a membership clerk in Tustin California. Later in Utah he served at a Financial Clerk of the Valley View 5th Ward.
He always had a love of sailing and while living in Atlanta Georgia he taught himself to sail. He took his family on many sailing adventures. He was the original DIY of home repair projects. He put his family first in everything he did. He was a loving father.
He is survived by his wife Shirley and children Sherrie Rose, Linda McGraw, and Lee Steed. His remaining sibling Sherman Steed resides in Littleton Colorado. He has 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the many care givers who served him at Brookdale care center with the help of the wonderful hospice team from Brighton Hospice. Thank you to Miriam Beattie DNP who cared for him all these years and Debbie Poulson his hospice nurse.
Viewing will be held on Monday 10/5/2015 6-8 PM at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary. Funeral will be Tuesday 10/6/2015 at 11:00 am with viewing at 10:00-10:45am prior to the services at the Valley View Stake Center 2245 E. 3900 S.
