Rebecca Curtis Petersen, age 89, peacefully passed away in South Weber, Utah on November 4, 2013 of cause's incident to age. Born May 21, 1924, to Ruth Frischknecht and Isaac Dewane Curtis in Manti, Utah.
Rebecca graduated from Manti High School, and attended Snow College before marrying her sweetheart Jay "M" Petersen in the Manti Temple on June 29, 1943. They were blessed with two daughters and three sons. She was devoted to her family and she lovingly cared for Jay before he passed away on October 2, 1998. They celebrated 55 years together.
Rebecca was taught to work hard and take advantage of life's opportunities. She always worked to help support her family. One of her favorite jobs was working as a reporter for the Manti Messenger. She supported to the war effort by sewing parachutes. After the family moved to Salt Lake in 1954, she found work selling real estate for Walker, Marsh, Banner Realty and later sold advertising for the "Utah Nurse" and other publications. Together, Rebecca and Jay operated an apartment rental business.
A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Rebecca enjoyed studying the scriptures taking every opportunity to share the message of the gospel. She worked on genealogy and loved to go to the temple. In the church, Rebecca diligently served as both a teacher and as a leader in the various auxiliaries. In 1991, Rebecca and Jay completed a three year leadership mission in the Liberty Stake.
She loved and supported her family and friends. She enjoyed good music and sang in many choirs. Always busy, she could shoot a deer, tailor a dress, make candy, lye soap, knit, bottle fruit, meat and vegetables.
Rebecca is survived by her five children, Rebecca (R.L.) Cope, South Weber; Allan (Shauna) Petersen, Salt Lake City; Glenn (Susan) Petersen, Sandy; Curtis (Sherry) Petersen; Anna Lee (Shawn) Winterbottom, South Jordan; Daughter-in-law Debbie Brady; 26 grandchildren, and 63 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband; brother, Dewane "R" Curtis; sister, Lorna Curtis; and great granddaughter, Amy Petersen.
Funeral services will be held at Saturday, November 9, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at the Parley's 2nd Ward, 1870 East Parleys Canyon Blvd., Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends and family may call on Friday, November 8, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Rebecca would appreciate donations be made to the LDS Missionary Fund.
