Randall “Randy” Mark Kelly was born January 7, 1953 to Howard B. Kelly and Verda (Larson) Kelly of Salt Lake City. He passed away on March 14, 2021 after a long battle with diabetes and kidney failure.
After earning his Eagle Scout rank in 1968, Randy graduated from Skyline High School in 1971.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Samuel Gompers in Vietnam. He attended the University of Utah and later Brigham Young University, where he met his wife, Kathy. They were married February 12, 1976 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He spent most of his career as a civilian employee at Hill Air Force Base and also 4-1/2 years at F.E. Warren Air Force Base.
Randy was a die-hard Utah Jazz fan who loved traveling, golfing, Chevy Corvairs, strawberry milkshakes and Subway sandwiches. He was a member of the Bonneville Corvair Club and was active in the club for 46 years.
Randy is survived by his wife Kathy (Hyde) Kelly, his children: Brandon (Kamila) of Fruit Heights, Greg (Amber) of Syracuse, and Elise (Aaron) Plumley of Salt Lake City, eleven grandchildren, along with his brothers Ron (Joan) Kelly, and Clifford Scott (Vicki) Kelly, and sister Joleen Burton of Meridian Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Verda Kelly, granddaughter Brooke Kelly, his brother-in-law Ted Burton and his aunts and uncles.
The family would like to thank the many medical teams that provided extensive care for him throughout his final years and in the dialysis units, the Veterans Administration, Holiday Healthcare in Salt Lake City and the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home in North Ogden.
A special thanks to the staff of the Jazz arena for their extraordinary service in helping Randy attend home games.
Thank you to the family, many friends and neighbors who have served extensively throughout the years.
Services and interment will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary; 3401 Highland Dr. SLC UT on Friday March 19 at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing from 9:30-10:45.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, you write the NBA Commissioner and ask that he revoke the results of the 1997 NBA finals or do something fun with your family.
