She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 3, 1960- and the daughter of Don B. Young and Olive Wall. She was the middle child, with two older sisters and two younger brothers. Melody attended Highland High School and had been a Clinical Lab Assistant at Pioneer Valley Hospital.
She met Mark Mahony the day after Christmas in 1978. They were married May 8, 1979. And again on June 6, 1979 just to make things proper. Mel’s focus was always on family (and not just her own) from the day I met her- to the day she slipped away. Together we have 5 sons. Mel was the driving force to turn them into the men I am proud to call my sons today. Melody was always so caring, loving and compassionate. She would always take the time to listen. She loved her sons so much and unconditionally, that it has carried over into their character. It wasn’t only her children that she was there and cared for. There are so many out there that as adults appreciate what she did for them, and consider her a second mom. They reaped the benefits of her presence.
Then came the grandchildren… She cherished them all. Melody didn’t miss a birth, and always enjoyed her time spent with them (and was frustrated that she couldn’t spend more time with them).
Mel is proceeded in death by her father Don B. Young, her stepfather John Weston, her sister Sue Tedrow and a niece; Heidi Hafen. She left a hole in the life of her mother, Olive West. She is also survived by her sister Judy Hafen, her brothers Brent Young & Scott Young (Cindy), and brother in law Joe Tedrow. Her 5 sons who loved and will miss her so very much: Adam Mahony (Staci), Matthew Mahony (Brittany), Andrew Mahony (Brooke), Jacob Mahony (Destiny) and Jared Mahony (Kenzie). She had 9 granddaughters and 5 grandsons, numerous aunts & uncles and cousins. She will be sorely missed by all.
The memories are endless, good and bad. Spending time with the family at the Ranch in Meadowville, boating and beaches at Bear Lake, the sun of Lake Powell and freezing at Flaming Gorge. She loved boating with family and friends, spending the 4 of July at Lava Hot Springs. Melody also loved the tea parties and barbeques at her mothers.
So many memories… I am sure if Mel was here now (which I am sure she is), she would tell everyone that it doesn’t last forever. Make the time, take the time to go out and make a memory.
From those you left, we will love and miss you. Always and forever.
