She was born with beautiful auburn hair that she was proud of throughout her life, and was the only one in her family that had it. She was our favorite “Spicey Ginger”.
Some of her favorite memories as a young girl were taking tap dancing lessons with her Father, and being the needed “right hand” to her dear Mother, during those Depression years, as the family lived on a ranch in Border, Wyoming. She loved her Father and Mother dearly, and all of her siblings each loved one another so much.
She grew into a beautiful young woman, and was a cheerleader at Cokeville High, and later served a mission in the Central States. Her favorite part of her mission was teaching the American Indians about their heritage and history from the Book of Mormon and had a love for that people that continued throughout her life. Later in life she mothered a Pima Indian daughter named Beverly in La Crescenta, California for 8 years, and our family loved her dearly.
She met and fell in love with Lowell Allen Larsen, and they married on July 27, 1953 in the Logan Temple. Theirs was a love that was deep and abiding. Where one was, the other wasn’t too far away. They encouraged each other to be the best at whatever they pursued. They were both scholars of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They knew and understood the depths of its truths, because they studied, pondered and prayed, individually as well as together. They were blessed with two children, Michael and Shara, who knew and felt of their parent’s love throughout their lives.
Maureene was never ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She lived it, and it brought peace and strength to her life that she wanted to share with others. She would and did talk with total strangers about it, and her courageous spirit brought many people to the gospel that blesses their lives to this day. She never hid her light under a bushel.
She was a business woman throughout her life, and loved working and learning in any field she pursued. Later in life she worked at Wasatch Lawn for many years and while there touched many lives with hope.
She then served a mission with Lowell to the Raleigh North Carolina Mission for a year and a half, and loved it so much there, that they sold their home in Willow Creek, UT and moved to Burlington, NC. They not only loved the people of North Carolina, but they fell in love with the ward members there and were so happy there.
Maureene was famous for her beautiful style, grace, elegance, immaculate home, décor, clothes, cooking, baking and could take anything and make it a masterpiece, including people.
She was diagnosed with Dementia later in life and didn’t remember or know many people, but the staff that took care of her for nearly 5 years, always said they could feel of her kindness, gentleness, graciousness and love, unless they dressed her in something that didn’t match or go with her hair.
She loved her children, grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. She will be so missed by her entire family. She was a grand Matriarch and a great woman to all who knew her.
She is survived by: her daughter-in-law, Diana Larsen; her daughter, Shara L. MacKay; former son-in-law, Bart MacKay; her grandchildren: Deirdre (Rich) Snyder, Catherine Warden, Ashley (Joel) Rasmussen, Courtney (Chris), Maren (JG), Marcus (Alize’), Derek (Chloe); great-grandchildren: Ava, Jacob, Vivi, Lucy, Nora, Scout, Tagg, Bodie; brother, Dee (Vonnie) Wilde; sisters: Doris Bunderson, Diane Walton, Caroline Wilde; and other extended family members.
She has left a deep hole in our hearts and the memories of our relationships with her, will be treasured.
All viewings and the funeral will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Millcreek, UT. The viewings will take place Friday September 6, 2024 from 6-8 pm and Saturday September 7 from 10-10:45 am. The funeral service will be Saturday September 7 at 11:00 am. Entombment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
The family wishes to thank so many people for their years of love, support and care; specifically Phil and Peter Richards, and Scott Schreyer; Warren Walker and Carolee Hogan, and all the staff at Crescent Senior Living; and to the Kerrybrook Ward.
