Mary Jean Barrett Staten passed away peacefully October 6, 2015. At home due to cause’s incident to old age (Alzheimer’s). Mary was the daughter of Leo Richard and Sarah Florence Barrett. She was born January 29, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mary was the loving wife of Hal E. Staten and supported him for 32 years of law enforcement. Hal and Mary were married for 64 years. Mary was a proud mother to Karen Jean Staten Morgan and Brent Hal Staten. Mary is survived by her husband Hal, daughter Karen and son-in-law Gerald Morgan, son Brent and daughter-in-law Barbara Hille Staten, brother David Barrett and sister-in-law Jessie Barrett, brother Richard Barrett, seven grandchildren: Shane Staten, Chad Staten, Jeff Christensen, Casey Staten, Mindy Morgan, Scott Morgan, Michelle Morgan Smith, and five great grandchildren. She was preceded by one great grandchild.
Mary was a homemaker and loved to tend children. She was very proud of her life long accomplishments built and shared by family. She loved her cabin and river that ran behind it. In the summer, Mary could be found sitting on the back porch of the cabin visiting with countless friends who’d stopped by. She loved all the animals that would wander through her property and wanted to feed them all. Most of all she loved feeding her squirrels; you could always catch her feeding the squirrels from her hands.
Mary was blessed to have so many true friends and even in her final days she wanted to make sure that we expressed her gratitude to all those neighbors and friends who stepped up and added value to her life. She seemed to bring out the best in people even if she was a little headstrong. Mary will be missed by those who looked up to her.
We would also like to give a special thank you to her Home Health Nurse, Rachelle Harris, and to Care Source and Hospice for all their loving care that they gave to Mary.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 9, 2015 at 11:00am at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 9:30am – 10:45am prior. Interment will follow at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Park.
