Junette S Engstrom

June 23, 1923 – January 22, 2016

Junette S. Engstrom was born on June 23, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois to Eric A. Sand and Emily (Schollin) Sand - two immigrants who arrived from Sweden at the turn of the century. Junette and her older sister Ebba Cochran grew up in Chicago where she loved to play the mandolin and accordion as well as sing duets with her sister. Her and Ebba began attending Stone Church where Junette met and married her husband Hartley Arvid Engstrom in 1946. Three years later their first daughter Carol was born in South Haven Michigan, followed by Marilyn in 1952 and finally Glenn in 1956 (both born in Chicago).

In 1958 the family relocated to Salt Lake City where she cared for her family and became a church secretary for First Assembly of God Church.

In 1967 the family moved once again, this time to Redlands, California where Hartley worked for Lockheed and eventually Junette was hired on as a secretary. When she wasn’t working hard doing various secretarial jobs Junette spent her time loving and caring for her family - always making delicious meals, baking fantastic sweets and entertaining everyone with such love and passion. She doted lovingly on her son in laws and her daughter in law and endlessly gave her energy loving on her 7 grandchildren. She worked tirelessly as a church secretary for another Assembly of God Church as well as making a name for herself as “Junettes Typing Service”. She ended up working hard for her son Glenn at his commercial cabinetry business.

In 1991 Junette and Hartley moved once again back to Salt Lake City, Utah to enjoy their retirement. Shortly after, in 1995, Hartley passed away. Eventually she moved to a small condo for a few years followed by an assisted living facility and finally spent her last 2 years in a convalescent home. Although she was strong in body, Junette struggled with dementia for the last 9 years. Despite this setback, she would greet everyone with a cheerful smile. She never forgot her family members and was always exuberant when she had visitors. The staff at both facilities said Junette never complained, she lit up every room with her presence and was always full of kindness.

The desire of her heart was to be with her family until the end. Though she fought hard for 10 solid days (she had a strong heart!) she left this earth peacefully at the amazing age of 92 at 3:40am on January 22, 2016.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 2:00pm at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah with a viewing for family and friends from 1:00 to 2:00pm.
