Our sweet mother, Anne Marie Gregson Hill returned home to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 20th after a long and valiant battle with Dementia and Multiple Myeloma. Anne was born August 28, 1935 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada to Thomas Thaddeus and Cordelia Gregson. She was both the youngest and only girl in the family. She spent her childhood trying to keep up with her older brothers which included riding a horse bareback by the age of 5, jumping out of barns (causing temporary paralysis) and developing a lifelong love of sports. While in high school she was a star basketball player for the Cardston Cougars, leading her team to the Western Canadian Championship.
At the age of 21 she moved to Salt Lake City with her parents and worked at a bank in the same building as a gentleman who held the water fountain for her. She married her chivalrous water fountain man, Melvin “Bud” Hill, April 21,1961. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. In 1963 they built their home in Holladay where they remained until their respective deaths.
Anne loved her family, friends and home. She loved gardening and rarely had a weed in her flowerbeds. During the summer months she could usually be found on her hands and knees maintaining her beautiful yard. She kept busy during the winters raising five children and bowling in various leagues. She was an avid fan of the Utah Jazz and University of Utah and loved attending all the football and basketball games. The one lesson I think we all learned from Mom is just to love. And mom loved well. She had the easiest laugh, gave the best hugs, and nearly always was smiling. Her front porch was always a gathering place for watching the neighborhood children and visiting with friends and neighbors.
Anne was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had various callings in Primary, Young Women and Relief Society, but her favorite was the many years she served in the Young Women’s sports program. She had a testimony of her Savior and an absolute faith in Him.
Anne is survived by her daughters: Sandra Dorius, Cindy, Debbie and Jana Hill. Grandchildren: Kirsten, CJ, Geoff, Austin (Alisha), Samuel Dorius, great grandchildren Thad Morgan and “baby boy” Dorius, and many extended family members including Betty Gregson, Medra Gregson, Chris Smith, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Melvin “Bud”, son Wayne, Granddaughter Elizabeth, son-in-law Todd Dorius, parents, brothers and extended family members.

A viewing will be held at Wasatch Mortuary (3401 So Highland Drive) on Sunday, November 28th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, and again on Monday, November 29th from 10:30am to 11:30am at the Holladay First Ward (2065 E 4675 So). Funeral services will be Monday, November 29th at 12:00 pm with interment at Redwood Memorial Estates.
