NIXON, Valerie Laura, beloved sister and adored aunt, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Chippenham Hospital. Born June 13, 1949, in Mount Vernon, N.Y., Valerie grew up in Yonkers, where she lived for 50 years. She attended Roosevelt High School and Lehman College and worked as an import/export agent for WestPoint Pepperell in New York City. In 2004, she moved to Richmond, Va. to be closer to family. Valerie is remembered for her generosity and her unique sense of humor. She loved children, especially her nieces and nephew, who knew her as “Wowie” and cherish many memories of childhood adventures with their aunt. She is survived by her sister, Nancie Silva; brother-in-law, Marcos Silva; two nieces, Bethany Miller and Lindsey Ray; a nephew, Ryan Silva; and two great-nieces. A memorial service celebrating Valerie’s life will be at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 2, at Woody Funeral Home-Huguenot Chapel, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian, Va. 23113.
