TILLEY, Mr. Thomas Edison, 74, of Richmond, passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 13, 2017. He was a graduate of West Virginia Tech and received his Masters degree from UVA in Education Administration. Tom spent 32 years in education in Chesterfield County Public Schools. He served as principal at Carver Middle School for 19 years and finished out his career as principal of Robious Middle School. After retiring, he continued to work for the Virginia Department of Education and the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Tom is predeceased by his mother and stepfather, Shirley and Parker Pendry; and his father Everett Tilley. He is survived by his loving wife, Ann; his son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Kacie and their two children, Meredith and Audrey of North Carolina; his daughter, Alison and her significant other, Brian Gafney of Washington, D.C.; and his siblings, Loretta Hawks of Powhatan and Lacy Tilley of Ohio and their families.
Tom had a lifelong love of learning and was a huge Wahoo fan. He enjoyed skiing, traveling, fishing, kayaking, biking, and playing guitar. His most cherished time was that spent with his family.
Visitation will be held at Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at 3:30 p.m., at Bon Air Community Clubhouse, 8725 Quaker Lane. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of Tom's mother, Shirley Pendry.
