Tuttle, Roger Lewis passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, surrounded by family in his Midlothian, Virginia home on Saturday, September 21, 2013. He was 82 years old. Roger was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Beverly Jean Tuttle; his daughter Pamela Anne Tuttle, daughter Deborah Tuttle Edwards and son-in-law Kenneth H. Edwards, all of Midlothian; grandchildren, Rebekah Edwards O'Dell and her husband, Evan D. O'Dell, of Chesterfield, and Reverend Patrick Carter Edwards and his wife, Teresa Nicole Edwards of Wake Forest, N.C.; and great-grandchildren, Georgia Isabelle O'Dell and Aiden Carter Edwards.
Roger was born in Kansas City , Kansas , on November 9, 1930. He was a Distinguished Military Graduate from the University of Kansas in 1952, where he was an active member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi in 1958. Roger honorably served his country from 1952 to 1973 in both the US Army and Army Reserves, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in Military Intelligence. He was a highly decorated Korean War Veteran and spent the last five years of his military career as Commanding Officer of a Reserve Counter-Intelligence unit (Special Forces).
Roger's legal career spanned over 50 years, including private practice; corporate counsel for Exxon, Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation, A.H. Robins Company, Dan River, Inc.; and dean and professor of law at Oral Roberts University School of Law in Tulsa, OK. His civic activities in the Richmond area included founding president of Team of Progress, member of the Mayor's Special Advisory Committee, member of the Richmond , Virginia City Air Pollution Control Board, and member of the Board of Directors for the Richmond Metropolitan Authority.
Roger lived out his love for the Lord in his daily life. A long time and active member of several churches over the years, Roger enjoyed serving in many leadership positions, including church elder and adult Sunday School teacher. Throughout his personal and professional life, Roger was an example of courage, honor and integrity. He was intelligent, witty, generous to a fault, and never too proud to say, "I'm sorry." His favorite past time, besides debating politics, was reading, and his love of books has been passed down through the generations that follow him. He was an affectionate man, who adored his wife, daughters, and grandchildren.
A celebration of Roger's homecoming will be held at Spring Run Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, September 24th at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive visitors at Woody's Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel, at 1020 Huguenot Road , immediately following the service. There will be a private internment service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Spring Run Presbyterian Church, 6601 Woodlake Village Parkway , Midlothian , VA , 23112 .
Roger will be remembered with a smile (and a good story) and will be missed terribly. During his last days, he witnessed to all who would listen and promised those left behind a grand party when we are all together again.
