Raymond John Canning

Raymond John Canning, 97, of Midlothian, Va., went to be with the Lord on November 13, 2012. He was a devoted husband, father and friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Vernon Stone Canning. He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Canning Thornton, one grandson, Christopher Clay Thornton, loved brother in law, Alfred L. Stone, Jr.
He retired after 40 years with Capital City Iron Works as a sales manager, he was a Mason for over 50 years, and excellent woodworker, craftsman, and member of Richmond Engineer's club. He spent a lifetime of active service at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. He was loved by many family members and friends who gave him great joy.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm, on Monday, November 19, 2012, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 1214 Wilmer Ave., Richmond, Va. 23227. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Lawrence room located in the church parish hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church Choir. A private burial will be held at a later date at the church.
