Tackett, Mary Harris, age 87, passed away on Saturday, June 11,2011 at Johnston Willis Hospital. Mary was born on November 4, 1923 in Mecklinburg County, VA, the third of nine children to Lucius and Emma Ashworth Harris. She was married to the late Thomas "Tom" Tackett, Jr. for 51 loving years. Mary was a dedicated employee of the Virginia State Police for 27 years. After retirement, she became a familiar face at the front door of Walmart on Midlothian Turnpike as a Greeter for 16 years. Mary was an active member of Central Baptist Church and lifetime member of the Virginia Power Boat Association. Mary is survived by her son, Donald Wayne Tackett and daughter-in-law, Beverley Jenkins Tackett of Powhatan. Her greatest joy came from her surviving three grandchildren, Robin Tackett VanDenburgh (John) of Riverside, California, Jason Tackett (Ann) and Joshua Tackett both of Powhatan. She was also the proud Great-Granny to Alexis and Olivia Tackett and Emily and Kendall VanDenburgh. She is also survived by two, loving sisters, Dorothy Davis of Boydton, VA and Hazel Carter of Chase City , VA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Nothing was more important to Mary than her family and many close friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 13th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. Funeral services will be held at Central Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 14th at 11 a.m. with interment in the church cemetery.
