Joan Bell Anonick passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 4, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Anonick, her parents, Bill and Eileen Bedortha, and her brother, Bill Bedortha. Joan is survived by her seven children, Timothy Anonick (Carole), Jeffrey Anonick (Heidi), Carolyn Farthing, Stephen Anonick, Patrick Anonick (Robin), Kristen Holland (Lawrence), and A.J. Anonick (Jennifer), eighteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Joan was born on July 28, 1939, in Steubenville, OH. She grew up in Weirton, WV, and later moved to Allen Park, MI. She attended Allen Park High School as a member of the Class of 1957 and was the valedictorian of her graduating class. Joan married Al on September 27, 1958. She attended Wayne State University and earned her associate's degree. Her family moved to Midlothian, VA in 1980, and Joan joined the workforce as a part-time employee at the Internal Revenue Service. Joan worked her way up to become the Branch Chief for the Richmond Customer Service Division of the Richmond IRS and retired over 20 years ago.
Joan was extremely involved in St. Edward’s Ladies Auxiliary and was their president for three terms. She also chaired and organized the funeral reception committee for at least 10 years. Joan was a long-time member of the Ladies of Virginia and served two terms as its treasurer. She was active in the lives of her children and grandchildren, always encouraging them to achieve their goals. She often volunteered in her community, especially in the Queensmill Neighborhood. Between caring for her family, Joan enjoyed cooking, playing bridge, and doing puzzles.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel on Thursday, December 14, 2023. There will be a mass and reception at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Virginia Knights of Columbus Charities, Inc. at vkcci.org or St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church at stedchurch.com.
The family would like to thank the staff at Anthology for their careful care of Joan, and St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Ladies Auxiliary for hosting the arrangements.
