Obituary of Jeanne Waite Moore
MOORE, Phyllis Jeanne Waite, 97 of Midlothian, departed this life on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at Morningside of Belgrade. She was predeceased by her parents, Sidney B. and Louise A. Waite, brothers Dr. Donald E., Raymond E., Dr. Robert M. and Dr. Louis E. Waite; one sister Marjorie A. Waite Barr, her husband Lt. Col. Lee Moore (Retired) and sons John and Mark Moore. She is survived by one sister Betty J. Waite Carter, sister-in-law Carol A. Waite, her sons J. Donald (Kathy), Michael L (Sandy), Robert A (Karen), & Richard C (Silvia) Moore, her daughter Lisa K Moore Martin (Steven) and daughter-in-law A. Christine Moore. Jeanne is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Jeanne was born in Columbus, Ohio on February 27, 1923 and graduated from Central High School in June 1940. She went to work right out of high school and in 1945 she obtained a job as secretary with the Columbus Quartermaster Depot in Ohio, which started her six decades of service to the nation. While working there, she met and married Captain Lee Moore, US Army. As a military wife she traveled from Ohio to Japan, Germany, Texas and around the State of Virginia. In addition. to raising six children, Jeanne owned a ceramic studio "The Green J, served as secretary of the FOP of Richmond and baked and decorated cakes for friends, co-workers and family. In addition to working a fulltime job at "Bellwood", her home away from home for 48 years. She served the installation under four different names, the Military General Supply Agency, the Defense General Supply Center, Defense Supply Center Richmond, and DSCR. She loved her work and missed her "other family", when she retired in 2010. Her only request was that she was not forgotten. To know her was to not forget her, as upon hearing of her passing, 184 people that had either worked with her or heard of her legacy gave condolences and shared stories on Facebook. She was a strong woman who loved hosting Sunday family dinners, family birthdays, family reunions and her favorite, Christmas Eve, which she enjoyed with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids every year. A viewing will be held at the Huguenot Chapel Woody Funeral Home 1020 Huguenot Rd, Midlothian on Tuesday August 25 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A celebration of Jeanne's life will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church on Wednesday August 26 at 11:30 A.M. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington VA, Thursday, August 27, at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to either the Leukemia Foundation or the Children's Hospital.
